The Asics Superblast 2 is the second iteration of the biggest cult classic running shoe of the 2020s. The OG Superblast was legendary for its thick stack of race foam, long run performance and lightweight construction. The second version continues the engineering feat of the first by maintaing the 45mm midsole, but it updates the compound to a newer variant called FF Turbo+. In our testing, we found the Superblast 2's performance to be remarkably close to the first. While it's not a favorite of the Supwell founder writing this blurb, many runners enjoy it as a protective, stable and lightweight shoe for long miles. It's also worth noting that many runners who consider themselves "bigger runners" or who run with a heavier forefoot strike enjoy the shoe more. Lightweight runners, or runners who are lighter on their feet, may not enjoy this shoe as much and may experience a firm, slappy, disjointed underfoot experience. For the right buyer, the Superblast 2 is an excellent product. But at $200, it's a steep investment—and other shoes like the Hoka Mach X2 (long runs) and Puma Mag Max (protective bounce) are less polarizing and less expensive.
