The Nike Pegasus Plus is a non-plated speed training shoe with a fast, firm and fun ride. It takes a while to warm up and break in, but once you get the Peg Plus going, it's a solid, reliable and enjoyable shoe for cruising at fast paces. We haven't had a bad run in the shoe yet, and it boasts the simple, no-frills character that makes us want to get out there and run, plain and simple. The biggest issue with the shoe is its $180 price tag. Most of the shoe's competitors in category are $140, like the excellent and also firm Brooks Hyperion 2, or the buttery smooth, versatile Hoka Mach 6. However, at the time of writing this, the launch colorway of the Pegasus Plus is $145, and with Nike's pricing strategy (high MSRPs, bloated inventory, frequent discounts), it's near guaranteed that you'll be able to find a pair of these below $150 throughout the year, as long as you're not picky about colorway. If you're looking for a traditional but fun feeling shoe, this is a good choice at $150 or below. At full retail, we'll take one of the competitors at $140, or spend our $180 on a more cushioned speed training shoe with more technology like the Brooks Hyperion 2 ($180) or Puma Deviate Nitro 3 ($160). (Note: This shoe uses a different version of ZoomX foam than the brand's race day shoes.)
