The On Cloudmonster Hyper is a distance training shoe that combines elements of speed and comfort. Built on the bones of the box-office smash, critically-acclaimed Cloudmonster, the Hyper amps up the ride experience with a thick chunk of race foam in the forefoot. Once broken in (our pair took about 40 to 50 miles of running to get its true character), the Hyper has a ride that's propulsive but forgiving, stable and smooth. It's not as tall or bouncy as competitors like the Hoka Skyward X or Asics Superblast, but that works in its favor—it's a shoe that's easy to run in, no matter the pace or distance on the schedule. At $220, it is indeed expensive, but it's worth it for runners who want a daily trainer that feels both traditional and fun for long miles.
